Dept. of Corrections recognizes Anaconda rep. for 'outstanding support' at 2023 Legislative Session

The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) presented Rep. John Fitzpatrick (R-Anaconda) with a plaque last week in Butte in honor of his outstanding support of the DOC in the 68th Legislative Session.
Fitzpatrick “was instrumental in guiding a number of Governor Greg Gianforte’s proposals for DOC infrastructure projects through the budget process as part of his work on the House Appropriations Committee and joint committees on long-range planning and finance and claims,” according to a DOC press release. It further states that he sponsored HB 817, “which prioritized several major projects at Montana State Prison including the construction of new housing on the low security side of the prison, water line replacements, emergency notification system upgrades, and more.”
The $180 million investment was originally introduced by Governor Gianforte in his Budget for Montana Families, according to the DOC press release.
“In many ways, Representative Fitzpatrick was the linchpin in the legislature for the DOC when it came to receiving the funding necessary to complete long overdue infrastructure projects that will improve security and efficiency immeasurably,” DOC Director Brian Gootkin stated.
